ICAO, with the assistance of the Meteorological Warnings Study Group (METWSG), has undertaken a task to conduct a feasibility study into the use of SIGNIET advisories in order to assist States in the issuance of SIGMET for thunderstorms, severe turbulence, severe icing and severe mountain waves.
For the AFI region, the feasibility study will take place from 4 April 201 1 to 30 June 2011
with the assistance of advisory information provided by France and South Africa.
Toulouse will issue SIGMET advisories (SMA : tex and SMG : graphics) for the northern part of the AFI region (see left).
These advisories will be disseminated via AFTN to the Meteorological Watch Offices of the area.
