General information

The 6th Training Course on Tropical Cyclones and Public Weather Services will take place from 28 October to 8 November 2013 in the conference room of the RSMC La Réunion within the Météo-France building located at Saint-Denis, the capital city of Réunion Island, Southwest Indian Ocean.

The tropical cyclone component of the training course will be held from 28 October to 5 November 2013, and the public weather services component will take place from 6 November to 8 November 2013.

The tropical cyclone training course is organized by the Tropical Cyclone Programme (TCP) of WMO and the Regional Specialized Meteorological Center for the South-West Indian Ocean (RSCM La Reunion), with a view to enhancing capacities of the National Hydrological and Meteorological Services (NMHSs) in providing necessary forecasting and warning services against tropical cyclones hazards.
It aims to contribute to the development of theorical and practical knowledges of the trainees on tropical cyclones. Also the analyse and forecast techniques are particularly highlighted. These scheduled training courses are the opportunity to focus on the new forecast techniques and tools.

Fourteen forecasters from the NMHSs of the states members of the RA I Tropical Cyclones Committee will attend the course.
The represented countries are: Botswana, Comores, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzanie, Zimbabwe.

The working languages will be English and French, with interpretation services available throughout the duration of this event.
